My Yuletide fic and Recs Post 2

Yay I'm so glad that I can finally reveal which story I wrote it was killing me. :) My story was for Bradley/Colin which made me really happy even though I was nervous because I'd never written RPS before. I hope everyone likes it.

Crying and Other Impossible Feats - Colin's having trouble with a scene and Bradley helps him, eventually. Spoilers for 2x09: The Lady of the Lake.

Now for the recs:
Naomi - Rachel's there for Quinn and Puck's kid's birth.
It's so sweet and both Rachel and Puck are totally in character. I feel like this moment could actually be in the show although there'd probably be a song somewhere in there too.

easy as one-two-three - Rachel decides to teach Puck to read even though he already knows how.
This story is so funny and full of misunderstandings, but it works out in the end. Another perfect Rachel and Puck.
Their Last Night of love... - Set before the Quarter Quell, Katniss and Peeta try to create something real.
I love this story, despite the title which initially set me off. I'm so glad I read it though because it feels like it could be in the story and I kinda wish it was.

There were so many good ones, hoping including mine. :)
A Matter of Conveinence - Bradley and Colin get a flat together, but it changes when they get a puppy.
I love this story so much, their relationship progresses well and I love the puppy. It's such a cute, fun story.

A Tale of Two Cities (or, alternatively, How Bradley James got a Clue) - It was all Angel's fault. If she had fallen for his charms the way he had intended when they first met, then he wouldn't be stuck here with Colin's hair tickling his neck and his arm going numb from Colin's body pressing against it. He wouldn't be trying to have his gay-freakout/epiphany-whatever quietly without waking Colin up.
This story was so good, I loved that they went to Paris and that Bradley was trying not to fall in love with Colin the whole time.

I Will be Your Accident if you will be My Ambulance - In which Bradley and Colin have their theme song and Colin denies that he fancies Bradley.
They kiss in the rain so of course I love it.

Of Pants, Pranks and Incidental Courtships - Three days before they're due to start shooting series four, Colin comes out on Friday Night With Jonathan Ross.
I love this story so much! There's pranking between Bradley and Colin. And how their relationship develops is hilarious.

Yuletide recs post 1

I've found so many great fics this year and I just had to share so here's the first of probably several rec posts.

The Comic-Con Costume Conception Caper - So funny and absolutely in character for Sheldon. The only thing that bugged me was that it was established relationship which isn't my favorite. I like to see the relationship develop, but it felt like their relationship was genuine despite the lack of reasoning for it.
Thursday Lunch Cafe - A leverage crossover with Parker. Her and Sheldon are hilarious together. The only problem I had with this fic was that it was so short. I wanted more. :)
The Cheap Trick Acceleration - This is the funniest and most creative story I've read in a while. I loved how she took parts of the new Star Trek movie and interwove them with the show. Penny and Sheldon's relationship develops in a different way than we'd ever seen before and time travel which I love when done well.

I wish I would've thought of asking for a fic in this fandom, but I'm glad that someone else did.
A Window of Opportunity - Gerald sneaks in Jamie's window and causes Nick and Jamie to pretend to be dating. It's a great start to a story, it just felt unfinished, but it made me even more excited for Sara's next book.

Now I have to go to sleep so I can get up tomorrow and read more. :)

Yuletide gifts

I loved both of the fics that I got for Yuletide. I wasn't expecting two, but I was glad to get both.
I got one for Penny/Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory. It's gen and it's perfectly in character and funny.
The other was one was for The Time Traveler's Wife. I wanted something and the writer gave me a great story with Alba.
I also found another fic that was from 17 Again fandom for Scarlett/ teenage Mike. Weirdly enough it fits another one of my requests even though it's not for me. It takes their relationship beyond the Disney version. :)

The person I wrote for likes the fic I wrote too so yay. I can't wait till they are revealed so I can post mine here, I pulled it together in just a few days, but I think it turned out well. Does anyone know how long before they are revealed? It's my first-time so I'm not sure.

Season Finale of Merlin

I loved the whole episode and Colin was so good that I teared up a little myself, but I felt a little disappointed. I felt like they were leading us toward Arthur finding out or admitting he knew for a while. I don't see how he missed all the father son talks or didn't wonder about Merlin's tears more. Sure he joked about it which was funny, but he didn't seem that confused about the situation. I'm glad that he did seem to appreciate Merlin more, but I really wanted him to find out. And now we possibly have to wait a whole 'nother season til we get to see them again. Grrr, at least we have fanfic. :)

Dear Yuletide Writer

Sorry this is late I've been trying to decide what to say. This is my first attempt at any fanfic fest especially one this big so I feel a little like I'm just stumbling around trying not to do everything wrong. :)

Fandom 1: 17 Again
I loved teenage Mike trying to act normal around Scarlett, but failing. I wish that he had actually seduced her instead of just getting slapped in front of his kids. Or I want an ending that isn't quite so Disneyfied by which I mean isn't so cut and dried. I loved his reading the letter at the trial and the happy ending, but I wanted more. I wanted the kids reactions and to see if their lives really changed after that. Other than that use your imagination the only thing I don't want is incest or an unhappy ending.

Fandom 2: Audrey Niffenegger. The Time Traveler's Wife

I want more of Alba and her life growing up with her father popping in now and again. I love the idea of her life and just wanted more of it. I thought the ending of the book was dragged out so long with her dying, but we didn't get to see enough Alba. I don't care where you go with it just as long as Alba's in it.

Fandom 3: V
I haven't seen the original series so I am not really spoiled for that so if you have seen it please use the spoilers sparingly if at all possible. I do know that the visitors turn out to be like cannibals so I"m fine if you use that. Other than that feel free to write about anything. I'll cool with slash, het, or visitors/humans.

Fandom 4: The Big Bang Theory
This is the prompt that I really hope you can fulfill because I love this show so much, but I know its hard to pull off the characters successfully. I really love the idea of Sheldon/Penny and hate the idea of Leonard/Penny. The story doesn't have to be romantic for them though I just want a story where Leonard and Penny aren't together, but she and Sheldon are in some capacity whether its as friends, lovers, or neighbors who tolerate each other.

Edit: I forgot to add things I like in general for any fic you write. I love humor fics of any kind and any type of adventure fic. I don't like heavy romance usually and am just fine with friendship fics. But really I will be happy with anything you write.

The Witchfinder and Nano Update

.I loved that episode. I think it might be one of my favorites so far along with the last episode. It didn't go at all the way I expected. I thought Gaius would try to say it was him, but I didn't think it would go so far as to him almost being executed. Arthur was so great in this episode too when he listened to Gwen. I'm am so looking forward to next week's and Arthur vs. Uther.

I am getting farther and farther behind on Nanowrimo, but I have the day off Tues and Wed so I hope to be able to catch up. It's still more than I've ever written this fast however so that's a plus.

V and Nanowrimo

I'm loving V, I love that the beginning was more scientifically accurate than Independence Day and that the ships did affect Earth's gravity. I love that the show isn't just painting them in a good light and then letting the viewers know later. I love that there's alien deserters and I'm kinda excited that he's getting involved with a human. I'm sure if they had a baby it would be creepy but I keep thinking about it. Also I saw it as anti-George Bush, but my roommate saw it as anti-Obama. What do you guys think?.

I'm so excited about my writing this month. I have managed 5,000 words so far which is a little behind but tonight and tomorrow I will catch up. Now I"ll have to be careful about including anything in my story that could suggest aliens after watching this show. :)

Merlin Humor Recs

I would choose a funny fic over an angsty one anyday especially when I'm feeling down. It's rare that I want to read something that isn't humor in some way so I thought I'd share some humor fics I've enjoyed recently.

The Pendragon Guide On How Not to Date by definewisdom - Modern day student AU. Still set in Britain. Morgana sends Arthur on some blind dates that don’t go quite according to plan.

The blind dates are hilarious and when Arthur is oblivious to Merlin's interest in him. It feels really in character and I love how the relationship develops.

This was not in the Job Description (AKA Buggery, Yay!) by ifyouweremine Being Arthur’s manservant was generally alright, Merlin supposed, except for all the blowjobs.

This is hilarious and also sex hence the title. The best sex is funny sex. :)

Soundtrack to the Apocalypse by phantomjam - The best thing you can have during the apocalypse is a healthy sense of irony. Or a decent car, infinite replenishing supplies and magical powers, but the irony helps.

It's not humor as such, I just see it as a humorous approach to the apocalypse. It's a depressing subject done in a way that ends sort of uplifting if that makes any sense. :)

And that's all I'll do for now because I totally forgot that the new episode was on and now I'm off to download it.

Merlin RPS Recs

The fanfics I love the most tend to be those that surprise me, those that I thought I wouldn't like, but somehow they manage to push all the right buttons anyway. :) I was recently surprised by my enjoyment of RPS fics. I had always resisted RPS because it made me a little uncomfortable, but then I actually read one because the summary sounded so funny and I've become addicted to Bradley/Colin fics now. Although sometimes I do feel guilty for reading them, but isn't that what a guilty pleasure is? :)

The Consequences of Playing Pranks by missdewey - This fic takes the idea that Bradley has gotten ahold of Arthur/Merlin fanfic and taunts Colin with it. The story is hilarious as Bradley makes notes in Colin's scripts.

Wherein Wooing Colin is Somewhat More Difficult Than Anticipated by ifyouweremine - “If you were hypothetically me and I were hypothetically courting Colin, what would you—and by you I mean me—do to win his heart and make him let you carry him off into the French sunset for a lifetime of sweetsweet lovemaking?” said Bradley.

The summary says everything about how funny Bradley is in the story. I love the humor in this story and their relationship is so perfectly executed.

The Lessons of Murphy by franticsga - "I thought I'd watch telly in here," Colin murmured, and smiled up at him so sweetly that Bradley knew it had to be some sort of trick. "If you don't mind."

This story is so cute and funny. I love the character of Murphy and how Bradley's relationship with him was compared to his and Colin's. It was a clever and funny idea.

There's more I liked, but I think it's better to keep it to just my favorites. Does anyone have any absolute Bradley/Colin favorites that I should read?

Arthur/Gwen or Gwen/Lancelot?

The newest episode has me so confused over which couple I like more.

In the last few episodes I've absolutely been cheering for Arthur/Gwen because we all know that Arthur/Merlin will only happen in our dreams. :) But this episode made me actually like Gwen and Lancelot together even though it makes Arthur so sad. Gwen obviously does not feel the same way about Arthur as he does about her. Her and Lancelot however seem to have one of those perfect fairy tale romance it even seems very Romeo and Juliet-esque since he's convinced they cannot be together. Although I guess Arthur/Gwen could be seen that way too. I would think I wouldn't like either because of that because I've always hated Romeo and Juliet type romances. I like romances with actual passion in them, not a just a great capacity for resisting the passion that could be there. That probably makes no sense, but I thought I would get out my initial thoughts about the episode, I always forget them the next day. :)

Nanowrimo

This year I actually plan to write for Nano and I will finish my novel that I've been working on for the past 2 years and redone twice. I've gotten to 5,000 words so far which may not seem like much, but I have to know my characters well before I can actually write and now that I know them well enough I should be able to crank out my novel finally. Yay!

The Once and Future Queen

I loved this episode so much and I didn't expect to at first. I wasn't sure of Arthur/Gwen but this episode so changed that. They were so cute together and I'm so glad that they aren't going to rush it right now. I like how the episode pointed out that Arthur isn't ready to be King. Hopefully that means we get more seasons. :) I also love that Arthur was able to be humble at the end of it even though I miss the prat in him. The next episode looks good although I'm sure it will make me sad because I love Morgana and I hate that she has to go insane. .

New Merlin and Recs

I finally watched the series premiere of Merlin and it was so good! I only wish I was lucky enough to be able to watch it on my tv rather than my computer so I could shirtless Arthur more clearly. :) This episode made me so sad for Merlin who works so hard but gets no credit, but so excited for the season to come. Hopefully I will be able to keep up even with the other million tv shows that I have to watch too. Including Glee which I just watched and it was so hilarious. I never thought I would see a whole football team dancing to Single Ladies. :)

Now I feel the need to make some recs since I read some more modern AU fics which I loved. I wasn't sure at first because I love Merlin and Arthur in their proper time, but some are just so brilliant that I can't resist reading them.

Abide with Me by stripedpetunia - An aggressive blood disease epidemic wipes out Britain. Twenty-eight days later, four of the last survivors in London must try to make it out alive.

I've actually never seen the movie 28 Days Later, but I love zombie stories so this was great. The post-apocolyptic genre is one of my favs so immediately I was excited to read it and the story itself was very good. I just wish it was longer. I loved how in-character they all are even though its a totally different environment.

Kings Don't Always Need Advice (And Particularly Not This Much) by mariamme - “Uther Pendragon is an elitist old fool,” Her Highness said sharply, sighing in anger. “But he has a point. So long as the law stands, you are required to comply, or the crown will be forfeit.”

I love the movie Princess Diaries, but I was skeptical at first how it would work with the "Princess" being a guy but the author worked it in quite well. It was a very fast and amusing read.

Camelot's Sweetheart's by definewisdom - Arthur is a film star, Merlin is his personal assistant who might, possibly be head over heels in love with him. However, Arthur’s more interested in his ex, Morgana, and then the mysterious Sophia to notice… Oh, and Will is awesome.

This story was great from start to finish, and I think I would have finished it in a few hours if my internet hadn't been acting up. It was so in-character and so believable. I hate it when fics rush the romance and this story had just the right amount of build-up.

My New Obsession

I never thought I'd like anything as much as Harry Potter but I've recently become obsessed with Merlin specifically Arthur/Merlin. I haven't posted in what I realized was 2 years so I figured it was time to do so again. I know some people on my friend's list like Merlin too so I figured I would share some of my favorite fics I've found so far and if anyone else would like to share their favorites I'd really appreciate it!

Three Tasks by syllic - Arthur is the Royal Arbiter for Suitable Suitors' Disputes. He (and his trusty companion, the golden-dragon-tasselled hat) alone can determine who is fit to woo royal servants and other assorted courtiers in Uther's court.

I loved this one because it was really unique and its hilarious. Arthur as a pseudo matchmaker isn't a concept I thought I would like either.

Quickening Days by Mercurial_wit - In which dragons & ghosts & prejudices are confronted, Merlin wears a hat (twice) and a dress (once), Arthur breaks some crockery (lots), there are more pranks than pillowfights but at least one of each, and many secrets are revealed.

I've always loved stories in which the characters get stuck in repeating days and this one did not disappoint at all. It was also funny as hell.

Not Quite Mary Poppins by claire_debonair - The one where Merlin is a nanny, Arthur’s both a prat and a normal human being, Morgana schemes and Uther does relatively little.

I don't read as much AU because it changes the characters too much, but this one keep them really in-character. I also love stories with kids and Gawain was a great kid in this. There's also a sequel but I haven't read it yet. I"m sure its just as great though.

I'm going to try and post a few at least every couple days so hopefully it won't be another two years before I post again. I also have a pretty good list of fics at delicious if anyone wants to check it out.

Post- Deathly Hallows fic

I haven't posted a reaction to the book but I read it the night it came out. I completely loved it and I would love to post all I love about it but others have done so a lot better than I could ever. I wanted to share some of my favorite post-DH discussions, art, and meta that others have posted. I also thought I would rec some of the great fics that have come out since then. I would like that it is obvious that spoilers are in everything that follows.

Art:
Until the very end by midnight_ljc - when Harry uses the Resurrection stone and is surrounded by his parents, Remus, and Sirius. Very touching and exactly like I pictured it.

Epilogue art by Eliathanis Harry telling his son its okay to be in Slytherin. I love her adult Harry and Albus looks exactly like I picture him.

Acceptance by _odella_ the scene when the Snitch opens. Very much like I pictured it.

The Rules of Being a Godson - Complete, Teddy/James, its been rec'd everywhere but it was one of the first fics I read post-dh and one of the best.

The Snake and the Lion - WIP, Albus Severus/Scorpius, unfortunately I too have fallen for this pairing although i much perfer the friendship fics than the romance ones. This one has Albus in Slytherin and Scorpius in Gryffindor

Across the Aisle - Complete, Albus/Scorpius, sort of parallel to when their fathers meet except this time they shake hands, very good short fic.

Epilogue #2: Forty-five Years later - Complete, Albus/Scorpius, The Next Next generation Harry and Draco meet. it's better than it sounds :)

Letters Home - Complete, Albus/Scorpius, letters that Albus writes to his dad from first year to seventh, very good.

Harry Potter: the Next Generation -Gen, on-going community project that includes letters and fic, sort of like the shoebox project, looks good so far

Seven photographs - Gen, this is definitely how the epilogue should have gone. My favorite post-dh fic that I've read.

The Road Less Travelled - gen, albus/scorpius, one of the best wip post-dh fics that I've read. Albus is in Hufflepuff and a Dursley goes to Hogwarts.

The Inconveniences of Being a Malfoy - gen, albus/scorpius, another of my fav wip post-dh fics. Albus forces scorpius to be his friend and he ends up being the new "trio" with two Gryffindors. My summary doesn't do it justice. :)

Harry/Draco

The Debt - AU after the Epilogue and my favorite post-dh Harry/Draco fic even though it is a wip.

If anyone has an Post DH recs I would appreciate them especially any of Neville, Luna, or Teddy. I haven't seen enough of them.

Veela H/D Fic Recs

I absolutely love Veela fics and I haven't really had a chance to organize them so I thought I would post all my favorites here. Hopefully it will help some others find some they like also. If you have any to reccomend that I don't list here, I would appreciate the rec. :)

A year's temptation
Summary: Draco isn’t best pleased to discover he’s a Veela at twenty-four…especially since both he and his mate, Harry Potter, are married. Harry suggests a compromise that may work, if everyone agrees.
My thoughts: The most recent veela fic that I've read and one of the best. It's a very unique concept with both being married and neither wanting to be together for a while.

Mate
Summary: My own twist on the 'Draco's a Veela' cliché. Draco's a Veela and does NOT want Harry… or does he?

Partners
Summary: Draco (with glasses!) and Harry are assigned partners during Auror training; Veela!Draco with suddenly attracted and irritated!Harry.
My thoughts: I love Auror training so this fic contains two of my favorite things and Draco with glasses which is very rare. Very good read although I wish it wasn't just a one-shot.

Drop Dead Gorgeous
Summary: Aurors!Draco and Harry have to deal with learning that Harry is a Veela
My thoughts: This is my absolute favorite Veela fic and even though its a WIP, I love every bit of it. It's absolutely hilarious and I love anything written by Mistful.

The Way we get by
Summary: Set in Drop Dead Gorgeous universe, draco's pov.
My thoughts: I don't know if I like this one just as much or better than the original, but its still absolutely hilarious and although there is a lot of Katie in this one, it's easy to ignore.

Honesty is the Best Policy
Summary: Draco has family heritage to deal with and an obsession who is completely immune to his advances. He's about ready to try anything, even honesty. Veela!Draco

A Consummation Devoutly to be Wished
Summary: Um... dracoisaveelaandHarryishismate. Shut up.

The Obligatory 'Draco is a Veela' Story that Every HP Fanfiction Author has to Write
Summary: Draco is part Veela. Unhappy with his chosen mate, he searches for a substitute.

The Veela Enigma
Summary: What if some of Draco's ancestors, pretending to be purebloods, concealed the truth about their veela heritage? You'd end up with one very confused Draco Malfoy, who's fallen head over heels in love with Harry Potter and has no idea why. Complete.

Fic Recs

I haven't posted in probably a year but I have a little extra time now and I thought I would share some of my favorite H/D fics that I've read recently. I've been reading a lot in anticipation for the last book coming out and I'm very excited about the movie coming out tomorrow. I'm going to the midnight premiere!

H/D Holidays recs:
Deja-vu
Summary:Can it really be him at a most unexpected of places? Veela!Draco, mentalillness!Harry
My thoughts: Kind of hard to figure out, I'm still confused about aspects of it, but overall very good and thought-provoking.

Set me Free
Summary: Everyone always told Harry to grow up. Now that he has, when is the promised happiness going to arrive?
My thoughts: Harry has an interesting job and I like that Draco forces him to sort of become friends with him first and realize how boring his life is. Also has a lot of humor that I enjoyed.

Room with a View
Summary: The portraits at number twelve, Grimmauld Place have seen many strangethings over the years, but none as strange as Harry Potter and DracoMalfoy staying under the same roof while there's a war going on outside.
My thoughts: I thought the premise sounded kinda odd at first, but once I started reading it I realized how unique and funny it really was.

The Logic of Dreams
Summary: J.K. Rowling meets Philip K. Dick. War hero Harry Potter suddenly findshimself guilty of a murder he hasn’t committed of a man he has nevermet. And worst of all, he has no means of confronting his accusers, allof whom are former Death Eaters.
My thoughts: Very unique concept and even though I guessed at the ending it was a very good read.

I'll probably post more later but that's it for now.

Prison Break

So I haven't done a post in a while, I'm hoping to soon add more recs, but I was hoping to make a request from all of you on my friends list. I have recently become obsessed with Prison Break and I don't know how many of you watch it, but if any of you do I would love it if you could rec some fanfiction to me. Wow its been a while since I posted anything. I've been wanting to post some links to some fics that I've enjoyed recently so here's some

Recently I've been obsessed with Hg/ss marriage fics so here's some of my favs and I'd appreciate some recs if anyone has some.

I haven't updated in forever. I have another blog that just my close friends read so I don't ever feel the need to post real-life things on here. I've thought about doing a list of recs because I kept a list of most of the HP fics that I read because I lose track of which I've read and which I've not read.

I guess one thing I can mention is that I just did my taxes for the first time online and it gave me a headache. It's supposed to be easy especially since I only have one job and nothing else to report. But they kept confusing me with weird questions and forcing me to sign and pay them money for filing state taxes. I shouldn't have used H&R Block because they charge more but I thought it would be better to use a well known company. Oh well at least I know better for next year.

Also schoolwise I have decided to change my major to Education. I work with kids so I realized who much I loved that and what better way to continue that by becoming a teacher. I just have to decide whether I want to teach elementary or junior high because I really love editing essays for some odd reason and I wouldn't get to do that in elementary school really.

Well I guess that was a semi-good post. Sorry I couldn't make it more interesting.

Step One

- Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.

- If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you. [Note: Your home address is not required!]

- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ, or link to this post (it'll be public) so that the holiday joy will spread.

Step Two

- Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:

- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.

You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.

There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.

I wasn't sure if I was going to do this, but I love giving other people gifts so hopely other people will love giving me a gift, but you don't have to.
